I didn’t grow up with stage fright. I could perform anywhere, anytime. My greatest issue was the quality of my performance. I was dynamic and entertaining, but I lacked technique and some of the other refined qualities of a professional dancer. It wasn’t due to lack of knowledge or practice. I was MFA candidate in the FSU School of Dance with a high GPA at the time I started working with Will Kitchings. What he helped me recognize is that my brain and/or heart was telling me that good technique wasn’t achievable even though I was working really hard on it. That wasn’t true. Also, Will gave me practical ways to access my technique during performance. Things like how to breathe, how to talk myself through a dance, how to encourage more positive thoughts, etc. That was the most helpful. I feel more confident in myself AND my professional abilities. I am excelling in my career as a performer, choreographer, and production manager, so much so that I am able to sustain myself financially.
